Anastasia and the Hag

With her instructions I walked into the cave she made home. The air smelled of frankincense and pine with strange writings written on parchment hung up along the walls. She grabbed me by my arm and told me to grab the knife she placed on the makeshift altar. I told her that I didn’t want to let go. “Fear only fuels the body’s desire to cling” she told me. She grabbed a copper bowl and started to chant in a language I knew by heart but could no longer decipher.
She asked me to point the steel knife to my heart:
“ I solemnly swear to kill the desire that led me into this place.”
The rite was complete, she would consume me. She built me a grave then destroyed it immediately after.
A life ruined was the sacrifice she demanded, I live inside of her now or rather she lives through me.
She fled the cave but It’s impossible to escape her now.
I offered her my life,
I swore to let go of my beating heart
No one will touch me now.
